FrontPoint Security Cellular Monitoring Services
Every home security customer should have the safest form of security monitoring available. FrontPoint Security provides a completely wireless and cellular home security solution to their customers. All FrontPoint Security customers use cellular monitoring because it is the least vulnerable security monitoring technology available. The central monitoring station is tasked with dispatching the police or other authorities to your property if you have an emergency like a burglary or home invasion. Since the other two forms of monitoring (landline and broadband) connections depend on a wired connection through the phone line or Internet line, these connections are more vulnerable since burglars could easily defeat them by cutting the wires. A fact that more and more home security users are being made aware of, evidenced by the increase in demand for these cellular-based home security systems.

ADT Security Review
ADT Security has been in business for over 100 years and they are a well established name in the home security industry. ADT Security serves over 6 million customers and professionally installs their home security systems. ADT Security offers both landline and cellular-based home security systems with optional two-way monitoring. Customers like ADT Security because of their two-way monitoring and interactive mobile features that the ADT PULSE offering provides. ADT Security customers also prefer to have their home security system professionally installed.
ADT Security Review
For most Americans ADT has become synonymous with security or home security system for decades. The ADT brand is very recognizable, seen on yard signs all on people’s lawns from the suburbs to most American cities. Most people have seen an ADT ad on TV at some point so this is a company that has done a lot to earn and maintain their status as the most recognizable brand in the home security industry.
Saying ADT Security is a staple in the home security industry is an under-statement, with over 100 years in the business of home security, ADT Security is the largest security company in the country, probably the world with over 6 million active customers. A number of things make ADT Security the recognizable and trusted brand it has been for decades. For example, ADT Security is number 1 when it comes to security companies who have a local presence across the US; they understand that even as a national company it is important to have a local presence. Home security shoppers appreciate the national company next door appeal that ADT Security has. With all that being said ADT Security wouldn’t have become the mammoth they are in the home security industry without providing top home security monitoring service. ADT provides 24 hour monitoring for theft, fire, medical response and environmental events on their most basic monitoring plans.
ADT Security is also a favorite amongst security consumers because they offer a wide variety of monitoring plans; they seem to have something for everyone and something for almost every budget. This gives ADT Security an advantage over some of the other more niche market home security companies out there. It should be noted that ADT Security also offers the same high end or niche products and services like video surveillance and smartphone applications that other home security companies have helped make popular.
ADT Security Monitoring Review
ADT Security provides several monitoring plans to home security shoppers, they also have different ways to connect to the monitoring center using the phone line, Internet-based broadband connection and cellular monitoring. ADT Security’s prices for monitoring tend to range from the $20-$70 range depending on what kind of connection you have and features involved. ADT Security’s contract term may also play a role in the price of the monitoring. Some of ADT Security’s monitoring plans through their dealers include:
Essentials Package: With 24-hour monitoring for theft, intrusion, medical response, fire and environmental response. In the event of an emergency the landline telephone would dial out to the monitoring center then the police or other authorities are dispatched to the property. This landline based security monitoring plan is great for people who want a less expensive form of home security monitoring, and may not have other connections available like broadband or cellular connections in their area.
ADT CellGuard: Provides 24-hour security monitoring including all the response option in the environmental package. ADT CellGuard is considered total protection because it’s more complete in the sense that burglars can’t just cut your phone line and defeat the home security system before even making it into the property. ADT CellGuard includes a cellular device with the home security system that ensures that during an emergency a signal a sent to the authorities using cell towers, making it practically impossible for a burglar to stop the monitoring center from being alerted which means the proper authorities will be dispatched to the home quickly. A cellular link is a very important piece to home security monitoring solutions because it ensures the security system isn’t susceptible to burglars cutting the wires and defeating the system.
ADT Two-way Voice
ADT Security’s Two-way voice is an add-on feature that offers home security customers the ability to speak to the central monitoring station through a convenient hands free, speaker phone system. The control panels built-in microphone and speaker phone help users communicate with the monitoring station; the dispatcher can verify there is an emergency at the house before dispatching the authorities through this intercom style feature.
ADT Pulse is an advanced security monitoring package. You get all the 24-hour monitoring services you receive with the other ADT Security monitoring plans, but ADT Pulse helps users interact with their home security system better. With the introduction of remote Control and access, home security users can access their security system from their smartphone apps, or internet enabled laptop or desktop computers. You can arm and disarm your system through the ADT Pulse web portal or through your smartphone.
Alerts and Notifications through ADT Security give home security users more peace of mind since they can be notified as to what’s going on in their home at any time on their smart phone.
Video Surveillance can be included in the ADT Pulse solution with access to video from your smart phone or other web enabled devices.
Home Automation is another way ADT Pulse ensures home security users have better controls, peace of mind and convenience. Lock and unlock doors, control your thermostat remotely and turn lights off and on from your smartphone.
ADT Security provides options that should meet the needs of most people shopping for a home security system, and the peace of mind of knowing you are working a with a century old national company with a recognizable brand. The biggest comfort by most ADT Security customers is how accessible an ADT Security representative or service technician is. ADT Security is also one of the few security companies with a national local presence and 24 hour customer service.

Home Security Systems Reviews
Our home security systems reviews are conducted on an annual basis and are updated once a month if there are any changes. Our team of home security system experts have a pulse on the industry and know of the latest offerings and developments from the major home security systems providers. Our reviews are conducted independently of the home security system providers and are not influenced in any way. It is important to state that we do not receive payment for conducting a home security system review nor do we receive free equipment from any home security system provider. Literally dozens of home security systems providers are reviewed and compared to each other on the basis of their customer service, business ratings, monitoring services, technology, equipment, mobile access features and warranties.
Home Security Monitoring Services – The Different Types
There are three main types of home security monitoring that you can select when purchasing a home security system. The traditional monitoring method that has been around for decades is landline or phone line monitoring. Some home security companies like ADT Security and Protect America still offer this as their basic monitoring service. This monitoring technology has its downfalls though. Wires typically run outside of a customers home and they can easily be cut should you get a determined burglar. Once the wires are cut there is no way that the home security system can communicate with the home security companies central monitoring station.
Home Security System Internet-Based Connections
The second method of communication are Internet-based connections. Home security companies like Protect America and LifeShield Security use your existing Internet connection to communicate to the central monitoring station. Although this is a newer home security technology it is still not the number one choice because similar to a phone line, an Internet connection relies on wires and they run to the outside of your home.
Home Security System Cellular Connections
The third and most recommended method of home security monitoring are cellular-based connections. Cellular home security systems use the same technology as your cell phone providers to communicate to the central monitoring station. The connection is a secure digital GSM connection. Companies like FrontPoint Security and Vivint only offer 100% cellular-based home security monitoring services. Protect America offers cellular monitoring as an upgrade and LifeShield Security offers cellular as a backup in the event an Internet connection is not available. When you combine a cellular home security monitoring with a wireless home security system you have a wire-free installation that is free from any burglar or intruder being able to circumvent the system.
What is the Best Home Security System?
It could be difficult to find the best home security system out there, with all the information and marketing promotions out there the worst thing a home security shopper can do is jump at the first deal that seems attractive. The first step in searching for the best home security system for your needs is to understand why you want a home security system. Determine what your concerns are and what it will take to get you and your family to a point that you feel secure with your home security solution. Ask yourself, how do I plan to use the home security system? What do I want to accomplish with this system? Soon as you have these questions answered you are well on your way.
What to look for in a home security system?
Home security systems are coming with features like smartphone apps and remote access from any web enabled device like your computer to help you keep tabs on what’s going on in the home at all times.
Apartment Security Systems
For people that live in apartments, shopping for a home security system may turn out to be interesting, if not challenging for them. You find a lot of enticing marketing performed by the home security companies but it never has a lot of specifics. Most home security companies focus on providing home security solutions to homeowners and they have long-term credit contracts.
Having long contracts could be difficult for someone that’s leasing an apartment or leasing office space or any kind of lease in general because you don’t know where you’ll be living in a few years and if you’ll be taking the alarm system with you.
Home security systems could also come hardwired into the property so there’s a sense of permanence after a security system is installed that someone that’s living in an apartment might not find conducive to their needs. We all have the need for piece of mind. At Home Security Systems at what we typically turn to in order to get that level of piece of mind inside the home, regardless of if you live in a big mansion or you live in a one bedroom apartment or studio apartment. You still need security.
Here are a few things you can consider when considering a home security system for your apartment. Go wireless. Wireless systems these days are convenient. They are easy to set-up and they’re portable. It only makes sense to use a wireless home security system if you’re living in an apartment because you can simply take it with you when you move without having to unscrew sensors from the walls or fix holes in the drywall or pull wires out. A wireless security system may be the most convenient way to go for a home security system shopper that lives in an apartment.
The second thing to consider is get cellular monitoring. Apartment complexes are pretty public places because you share those areas with your neighbors. All the phone lines may run from one general area. You want to ensure that if you get a cellular system, someone plotting to come break into your home that sees that you have a home security system, may want to cut the phone line and defeat it. A lot of burglars are doing that now. Both a cellular system, you don’t need to have that worry at all because there are no phone lines required that could be cut.
The third thing is to consider a home security company that offers short-term contracts. Short-term contracts are very important for people who want to get a home security system but live in apartments. If you can get a one year contract or less, that would be very, very conducive for you. More and more home security companies are acknowledging that this is an important thing to have for people that stay in apartments all together.
Those are three tips for people that live in an apartment as far as what they should consider when shopping for a home security system. Pick out only home security companies that offer you these features, as they could be the difference between protecting your home or finding it too difficult to find a solution for your property.
Purchasing a Home Security System
When shopping for a home security system, it is important to think about the design of your home security system. The design then what kind of devices you use in your home are one of the most important factors because for a second, you have to think like a burglar. The question of how would a burglar make it into my house, is very important when considering a home security system design.
As a lot of people know, your doors remain the main point of entry. A majority of the time or most of the time, burglars come in through doors. A lot of doors are easy to breaking into, either by punching the glass or breaking the glass, reaching in and turning the latch, kicking a wood door in, or using a crowbar or something to jimmy the door open.
Burglars have a lot of ways to break in through doors. As a home security system user, you have to be prepared for that. There are a few ways to protect your doors. The first way would be to use a door or window sensor or a contact sensor. The way contact sensors work is, if you were to have a break-in or someone kick in your door, as soon as the door opens which means it separates from the door jam by more than an inch, the door sensors kick in at that point and they indicate to the control panel that the door has indeed been opened.
The control panel then in the absence of an alarm code from the home owner sends a signal to the central monitoring station and the home security system has done its job at that point by notifying the central monitoring station that there has indeed been a break-in at the house.
There are different types of door or window sensors. Door sensors come into contact sensor form that stick or are drilled into the door. There are wireless and hard wired types of door sensors. There are also recess door sensors for people that are not too keen on the sensor showing on the door. Probably for aesthetic reasons.
Home security system users should be able to find the solution that will work for all of their needs.
Contact sensors just like doors, are a good solution for windows also. They are very, very effective because for lots of windows burglars would actually have to break the glass, reach in, turn the latch, and open the window. Or they could jimmy a window open with a crowbar just like they could with doors.
The reason why windows are very attractive to burglars is because windows could be hidden in the house. Windows could also be convenient ways … There are windows that are really accessible, maybe basement windows or lower laying windows in the property, could be easy points or opportunities as burglars to crawl into the property through. When designing a home security system, it is important to have a game plan for the windows. It is definitely a major point of entry.
The contact sensors for the windows are always a great fit. You could also use interior devices or sensors like motion detectors inside the house. Motion detector are an important part of any home security system when people want to be able to pick up motion or somebody moving inside the property. Now, it’s a fact that should the burglar come in through say kitchen window or a laundry room window, they might not stay in that one place. They are likely to move around the house to other areas. The motion detector picks up if positioned correctly will pick up on that movement inside the property. Say somebody is moving but send a signal to the control panel also.
It doesn’t matter if you are concerned about entry through doors or windows, motion detectors are a good fit to have either as a backup device inside the house for when you’re not there or something that at least gives you that added piece of mind in case a burglar makes it into your home and doesn’t trigger an alarm events through the door or the window.
The next thing to consider is sliding glass doors. That’s another very vulnerable point of entry with the home security system. When designing your security system, ensure that the home security company knows if you have any sliding glass doors, especially walk-out basements with sliding glass doors. Obviously, this could be very attractive to burglars, simply because it’s a big glass wall and all they have to do is throw something at it to break it. If they were to break that glass, a motion detector or a glass break center may be a very important part of protecting your home in the event of a burglary.
When considering a home security system, it is important that you share with the home security company that you’re going with all points of entries including sliding glass doors. They don’t want to treat sliding glass doors as regular doors.
If you have crawl space in your house, maybe a porch that someone could access without a ladder or a tree close to a window that a burglar could climb, you probably want to consider those areas as accessible points of entry into the home also. It’s not just about the obvious parts like doors and windows. Make sure your home security system is designed to protect for those areas that opportunistic burglars can use to get into the property.
Home Security Systems Equipment
There are a few things to consider when looking for home securities reviews. After all, home-security systems are broken down into the companies you pick. Get out, and find that company, and research the review with them, the kind of equipment they provide, the kind of maybe provide the kind of monitoring sensors they use, and their customer service rating. All the states have feedback from customers or reviews based on research.
The first thing I’d like to talk about today is the equipment. At least the main equipment that people go for, or tend to use when they are shopping for home-security-system support. The first one would be the door or window sensors. The door or window sensors are also known as contact sensors. Contact sensors, over the years, have been larger, but they’ve been fairly consistent in any home-security system today. The u-contact sensors that are smaller, but the wireless ones are portable. One feature, the door or window sensors, you always want the safe points of entry. You’ll find them on doors and windows on people’s homes. People put them on medicine cabinets, and you always try to show contact sensor.
One of them is the sensor itself, and the other is a magnet. When a magnet separates, typically, they’re more than an inch. They send the signals to a control panel. Look for contact sensors that are smaller, because more-and-more people tend to use contact sensors that are aesthetically appealing, and they look large or bulky, and they can get in your way. But contact sensors, or door-and-window sensors could be the most important part of a home security system.
Motion detector, when looking at motion sensors, there’s several kinds of them you want to consider. Motion sensors are also known as passive infrared sensors. When reviewing motion sensors, you just want to ensure that they cover a wider range. The crystal motion detectors also typically have two trigger points. That means, they detect body heat, and they pick up on motion. So, any change in room temperature that indicates to the motion sensor that there is something in front of it. If that thing starts to move, then it sends a signal to the control panel, and the control panel signals the central monitoring station. When shopping for a home-security system, read about motion sensor reviews.
Flood sensors are a very important part of a home security, because flood sensors are your go-to sensor if you’re worried about water or flood damage in the house. People that live in high-flood areas tend to by flood sensors, of course, but unfortunately a lot a people who don’t live in high-flood areas tend to forget the importance of a flood sensor. If pipes burst, or if you have a leak in the basement, or where the water is, the flood sensor can save you thousands of dollars in repair costs by notifying you early on in the process that there is excess water in the particular area.
The way flood sensors work is that they’re focused low to the ground, less than four inches off of the ground. There’s a sensor part of it, and then there’s the part that actually drills into the wall, so any time it senses water or moisture around it, it sends a signal to the control panel that there’s excess water in the area it’s put. Flood sensors those typically trigger a response from the police, but they do notify the home owner that things are being damaged in the home.
The home owner is notified by siren, correct, if they’re in the house the siren could go off depending on your alarm system settings, and people that have flood entry features that include alert notification could receive a text message, or even an email, but a text message would be more of a real-time early alert.
A garage-door sensor doesn’t actually act like a contact sensor. And, there are several types of garage-door sensors out there that you’ll come across in reviews. When we’re doing a garage-door sensor, you want to make sure that you’re looking that fits the property that you want to put it in. So, I’ve seen garage-door sensors for they typical garage in a home. There are also garage-door sensors for maybe a big door, in your typical garage shop. They also roll over kind of cylindrical garage doors. So, a traditional home security systems garage door sensor would have kind of like a rectangular knob, and it sticks behind the sensor itself. They sit behind the door. So, as that door goes up, down the track, one of the sensors passes a 25 degree angle it notifies the control panel that’s part of your home-security system, and then you know that the control panel is open.
It could trigger an alarm, or you could set it to notification if you have alerts and notifications included in your package with your home-security system. There are other types of industrial-grade garage-door sensors. Some of them actually require installation into the ground itself, so that when the garage door separates from the ground, it acts more like a contact center. When it separates by several inches, it indicates that the door is open. To insure that the garage-door sensor that you’re looking for fits the property or the kind of garage door that you’re looking to protect that’s why we do reviews for garage-door sensors. It’s very important.
When looking for home smoke and heat sensors reviews, you want to understand the difference between different smoke-and-heat sensors out there, and exactly what they do. Now, smoke-and-heat sensors work like smoke detectors in your home. They’re designed to alert you if there’s a high level of smoke in the house, smoke particles to be exact. The smoke detector part of the sensor says, there’s an issue here. Fewer models of smoke-and-heat sensors actually look for multiple triggers in order to insure that there are no false alarms, or reduce the occurrence of false alarms, I should say.
The way they work with the multiple triggers is they pick up smoke particles in the air, and they also calculate, or they’re able to read a rise in temperature within the home. Typically there’s an open flame, a growing flame within the home which is a close area. There’ll be a spike in room temperature. It is important that when you’re looking for a smoke-and-heat sensor, or reading reviews for smoke-and-heat sensors that you go for one that has this multiple functionality. It is more precise, and it can help to reduce the occurrence of false alarms.
Now, with that said, there are also heat sensors. Some home security users are not interested in the fire monitoring feature, and they may just be concerned about heat in certain areas of the house. The heat sensors are programmed to calculate heat at 135º inside the house. So, it’s safe to say, that if it was that hot in a property, it is not safe for people, you know, your family members or even your pets to be in the property during that time. So, the heat sensor would send an alarm signal to the control panel, and trigger a siren. For home-security users who have alerts and notification in their monitoring plan, they could also receive a text message to them wherever they are which could even indicate that the power is out, or the air conditioner is not working. And they could report to the property, and do something about it. Heat sensors do not typically dispatch the police or fire department to your home it is used more as a notification tool.
A smoke-and-heat sensor will dispatch the local fire department to your home, as opposed to the police. The heat sensors will typically not dispatch either the fire department or the police unless the customer has it setup, or requests it specifically.
The important thing is customer should be able to tell when reading reviews on glass-break centers is that glass-break sensors have the regular devices like your door or window sensors. Glass-break sensors are great for people who are concerned more importantly about a break in when they’re in the house or work, or ones that trigger an alarm device earlier on in the process; ideally while the burglar is still outside the house.
Unlike motion detectors, glass-break sensors pick up on the sound of broken glass which typically occurs while the burglar is outside. Motion detectors, on the other hand, don’t trigger until the burglar is already inside the property. Glass break sensors are great for rooms and areas with lots of windows or glass in it. They can also be very, very cost effective, because you don’t have to put a door or window sensor on every window.
By default, glass-break sensors are also the sensor of choice for taped shut windows, and your basic windows that do not open. And rooms that have sliding glass doors may benefit from a glass-break sensor inside of that room, because if a burglar shatters a sliding-glass door, it does create a big enough opening for the burglar to get into the house without triggering the contact sensor. I would say a glass-break sensor is a very important perimeter device center when considering the home security system.
When looking at key-chain remotes reviews, it is important that you know how they work, and how customers use it. Key-chain remotes are more of a convenience item, but it is designed to really encourage the home-security user to use their alarm system more often. Traditional alarm systems just have the keypad, and as the home-security user comes, and goes, they will have to punch in a code when they arrive, or when they leave from the property.
The key-chain remote performs the function of inputting that code at the push of a button. Key-chain remotes, also, could have additional features other than just arming, and disarming your home-security system. Key-chain remotes could put the system in stay mode and away mode. Stay mode would be a status in which you want your home-security system to be in when you’re in the house, and with your doors and windows secure with the door-and-window contact sensors, when you want the motion detectors to be off, because you’re going about your business in the house.
Away mode would be the feature in which you turn on the alarm-system fully including motion detector when you’re away from the house, so you have a high level of security. The key-chain remote is a very important piece of a home-security system design. Anything that encourages users to use their alarm system by making it easier, and convenient to use, is always a plus.
How does fire monitoring work with a home security system?
Home security systems are typically used in the event of a burglary or intrusion. You relate them with TV commercials that somebody may be kicking in the door, a siren going off, and the police being dispatched to the home, but there’s more to home security systems. Another important part of getting home security system monitoring is using the fire monitoring feature.
Fire monitoring basically gives you a response from the fire department to your home in the event of a fire emergency. One where fire monitoring may be key would be in cases of fire and you’re not in the house. Most people have smoke detectors in their home. Smoke detectors are typically a standard feature or something that’s required for you to have in your property in case there’s a fire, so when you’re in the house, smoke detectors are designed to beep, and they beep to alert you that there’s a fire or there’s rising smoke in the house so you can open a window and take care of the situation. What are home security users supposed to do if they are not in the house and a fire starts?
With monitored smoke and heat sensors, in the event of a fire, the central monitoring station gets called, and the fire department is dispatched to your home; all this as part of your home security system monitoring plan. For people who have pets, this could be an important feature because they leave their pets at home. The sooner you can get the fire department out there, the better because those pets are extremely vulnerable in the event of a fire so this could be a key feature for people with pets and even elderly family members in the house when they are away.
Fire monitoring should be convenient, so unlike smoke detectors, you want to ask your home security company what kind of sensors they use for fire. It is important that the sensor is able to read multiple triggers so that it reduces false alarms in the home. When the sensor is able to use multiple triggers in the event of an emergency, it means that is able to reduce the occurrence of false alarms in general. Let’s take smoke and heat sensors. Some smoke and heat sensors are designed to calculate the rapid rise of temperature that’s in the property, so if there’s open flame in the house, we know that the temperature in the house would rise. You combine that with a second trigger, which would be smoke particles in the air; so as it calculates high smoke particles in the air, that with room temperature rising, it’s able to decide that this is a fire or resembles the occurrence of a fire in the house so the smoke and heat sensor dispatches the fire department to the home quickly. There are also heat sensors that don’t calculate smoke but are designed to trigger if temperatures rise to a certain level in the house, somewhere around 135 degrees Fahrenheit in the property.
So enhance your home security monitoring plan by ensuring that you have a fire monitoring standard in it. It definitely goes a long way for a lot of home security system users out there in making a difference in either a life or death situation or getting all your valuables destroyed.
Medical Alert Monitoring with a Home Security System
Most home security companies now that offer 24 hour monitoring go above just providing a service that dispatches the authorities to your home if you were to have an emergency or simply protect you in the event of a burglary. You will find that alarm companies like fire protection, even environmental protection in the event of flood, or extreme temperatures like freeze or heat; but one thing that’s typically overlooked by home security shoppers is the fact that they can add medical protection to their monitoring package. It is important that you ask your home security provider if they have this feature included because it just adds more value to your total service in general.
What is medical monitoring? Medical monitoring is a part of 24 hour monitoring that entails the home security company calling out to the emergency medical services or the emergency medical technicians in your area and getting an ambulance dispatched to your home if you have an emergency. The way it works is you would have a sensor or a device that you could wear around your neck like a pendant or a bracelet; and when the button is pushed, the system dials out to the central monitoring station. They call you to acknowledge that you have had a medical emergency, and they dispatch the proper authorities to your home. Perfect scenario, and it could be a matter of life or death, so it’s worth including in your security monitoring plan as a standard feature. For people that have children at home or elderly, this may be a must have. Don’t forget that a lot of control panels that come with your home security system have a medical button built into it also, so it’s to know that that’s available or medical response is readily dispatched at the push of a button.
Another reason why medical monitoring is important is for elderly people that live alone too. With interactive monitoring features that notify family members now by text message if they were to have an emergency, medical monitoring plays a huge role in enhancing peace of mind for home security users. For elderly people that may live alone, this is a very, very important feature. They are able to regain their independence in case they were to fall knowing that they can get the proper authorities out at the push of a button on the aforementioned pendants or bracelet that they can wear on their person. These pendants or bracelets should be waterproofed. They should be able to take it into the bath with them. They should be weather proofed also so that they can use it in different situations, and they should cover a wide range. A great question to ask would be what is the range? Can I be working in the yard or in your garden and push the button if something happens and still get police response, or I should say medical response to the property?
Remember that medical response could make the difference between life and death, so it’s important that it’s added to any home security system package that’s out there.
The Importance of a Monitored Home Security System
When shopping for an alarm system, people typically have an idea of how they want to use the system. A lot of people believe that a siren or an alarm going off on the property may be enough to deter a burglar from breaking into the home or they believe that most alarm sirens will be loud enough to actually get a neighbor to either apprehend the burglar or make a phone call to the police on their behalf. Unfortunately, there’s no data that actually supports this claim or this idea that people have because as a rule, most people, especially in suburban areas and city areas, are completely desensitized to the sounds of alarms. A lot of false alarms occur, and people kind of believe that they don’t have to stop what they’re doing in order to respond to an alarm, which is why it’s important to get a monitored home security system because if your home security system is monitored, then the alarm is not your last line of action or defense in the event of a burglary. With a monitored security system, you know that the authorities will be dispatched to your home in the event of an emergency, so it’s almost a no-brainer that if you want the burglar to be apprehended or in the event of a home invasion, you will have you or a family member rescued from someone invading your home by the police, getting a home security system is the way to go with a monitoring plan , of course. It’s important that people understand the difference between an alarm system, a loud siren, or as it is described in the industry, a barking dog kind of system; so it barks when there’s a break-in or an intruder in there, and that’s all it does. A monitored security system goes a long way in providing security service for you because the central monitoring station dispatches the police to your house even after the siren has gone off.
More and more people are using monitored home security systems because more and more people are getting to a point where they understand these differences. Most burglars also know that if you have a home security system and just a siren is going off that the police wouldn’t be dispatched to your home, and they assume that, so they try to hurry up and grab what they can and exit the property as quickly as they can. The concept of a siren actually scaring a burglar away may hardly be the case. A siren, on the other hand, may motivate a burglar to grab what they can and try to leave quickly; but if the police are there, you’re likely to get a police report. The police could check for evidence if they arrive at the scene quickly before others could tamper with the evidence, before you even get home. This could be the difference also in you recovering your valuables in the event of a break-in or a burglary and not being able to recover them at all.
It’s difficult to overstate the importance of investing in a monitored home security system as opposed to spending money on an alarm system with a siren that does not provide any dispatch options.
What is the difference between Wireless and Cellular monitoring?
A lot of times, when home security companies present their products, you want to be able to sort out all the jargon and really understand what different things mean. The fact that some things maybe similar in other industries say wireless and cellular in terms of cellphones doesn’t necessarily mean that applies in the home security system industry.
With home security systems, you want to differentiate between what a wireless security system and what a cellular system is. First, let’s talk of wireless. A wireless system or a wireless home security system is a security system that basically has wireless sensors in the house.
These sensors are the same sensors you place on your doors, your windows. They’re also like motion detectors within the property. These sensors do not rely on any hardwiring whatsoever. There’s no need to wire them because they’re wireless. The homeowner or these home security system installer drills holes into the walls with a wired security system. Once the wires all the way to the power and then to the control panel while wireless security systems, the sensors use a wireless frequency and they send out a signal using that wireless frequency to the control panel.
Typically, you’ll find the high band radio frequency in order to ensure safety and stability with the signal. A cellular security system is different from a wireless system because cellular actually speaks to the connection to the monitoring station. Basically the use of cellphone power.
While wireless has a lot to say about the method of communication between the sensors and the control panel, cellular is basically how the control panel connects with the central monitoring station. A lot of control panels out there rely on also some kind of hardwired connection like a phone line or a phone jack.
They also rely on internet connectivity or broadband to connect. Cellular is the safer option because it gives customers a much higher level of safety when you connect into the central monitoring station. That’s the difference between wireless and cellular in the home security industry terms.
To emphasize, wireless is the way the sensors could communicate with the control panel and cellular is the safest way for the control panel to make that connection to the central monitoring station as a way to avoid burglars taking advantage of the system, cutting phone or internet lines, cutting the power in the house and defeating the system that way.
Companies that offer 100 percent wireless security systems may not offer 100 percent cellular systems. There’s a difference between both. Companies that may offer cellular monitoring doesn’t mean that their equipment is wireless.
As a home security shopper, you want to make sure that you’re asking all the right questions and ensuring that the company is actually providing you with specifically what you’re looking for. If you’re looking for a wireless system, go for a wireless system. If you’re looking for a cellular system, make sure you’re getting the cellular system.
If you’re looking for both, we have companies on this website that primarily offer both like Front Point Security, Protect America that offer completely wireless and cellular solutions. You may find that some wireless home security systems are do-it-yourself installations. They’re really easy to install. One of the reasons for the is because they’re wireless.
Another sign for a wireless system will be … maybe a do-it-yourself installation kit.
What does a Home Security System do in the Event of a Burglary?
Knowing what your home security system does in the event of a burglary really begins with the way you design it.
You want to understand how the burglar is thinking and what kind of protection you would need. Ideally, you want to start by protecting your points of entry. Your points of entry are the way a burglar will come in to the property in the event of a break-in.
Your home security system should be able to notify you if a burglar triggers the sensor in any of these points of entries such as your doors. Your doors are the primary points of entry in the home. Over 70-80 percent of the time, burglars actually come in through doors when breaking into people’s homes.
Those are a convenient way to get in and they know that if they can actually make it in through the door, they have a big enough opening to carry things like the TV out, the computers. We’ve seen burglars steal refrigerators, steal entertainment centers, large loud speakers.
They’re able to do this and actually clean out people’s homes. The china, dining room sets because most burglaries occur, also occur when there is nobody at home, when there is nobody in the property.
Burglars are opportunists and opportunistic and it’s not unusual for a burglar to actually case the area and watch a homeowner how they move, how they come and how they go, their hours when they go to work. Pay attention to your daily routine before breaking in to the home.
For that reason, you want to make sure that you have your door secure and you also have some kind of secondary protection in the house in the event of a burglary. A motion detector is a great sensor to have. Glass break sensors are great sensors to have also in case you would have a burglary in the home.
The way the alarm system would work if a burglary does occur is at point of entry when that door is open or it picks up motion, somebody moving around in say the living room area. The sensor would send a signal to the control panel. At that point, the control panel would sound the siren off if it’s a control panel that comes with a siren and then send a signal to the central monitoring station basically saying dispatch the police to this property here. It seems like there’s an ongoing burglary in place.
When the police get this fast to the property, if they arrive on time, they may be able to catch the burglars or at least get some information or evidence as to what happened before others could actually get to the house and tamper with the evidence and make it difficult for the crime to be solved, the police could actually resolve that early on in the process.
Your home security system is designed to deter a burglary. It’s the sirens who startle a burglar in the event … while the crime has occurred because of the siren going off. It’s also designed to send a signal out to call the police.
With a monitored home security system, you have three levels of protection and this should give you a much higher level of safety altogether.
What does the Home Security System do in the Event of a Fire?
In the event of a fire, the home security system is designed to alert people in the home and also send out a signal to the central monitoring station and then they dispatch the local fire authorities to your house.
The fire department, your county sheriff, he would have to write a report and also people that can put the fire out and save lives and save property. The Home Security System in terms of fire monitoring plays a very, very big role. The way the Home Security System works in the event of a fire is you have smoke and heat sensors in your home.
The smoke and heat sensors are different from maybe the standard smoke detectors that are required for people to have in their homes because they’re different because the smoke detectors that are required sound an alarm or beep when there are a lot of smoke particles in the air.
The way Home Security System, a monitored home security system works in the event of a fire is the systems uses the smoke and heat sensors to calculate smoke particles in the air but it also calculates rate of rise in room temperature. It knows if there’s an open flame in the property.
Those two things, say this a big enough event to send the fire department out to notify the central monitoring system and they’ll call the emergency medical services. Send the fire department out and to the property. There might be lives in danger here because this looks like a fire situation.
That’s how a home security system works in the event of a fire. It’s important to note that it doesn’t work the same way as a burglary in the sense that it doesn’t the police out in these events. It doesn’t work the way it would in the case of a medical emergency because it doesn’t necessarily send an emergency medical team out.
This is merely for fire so it dispatches the fire department to your home if you were to have an emergency. Make sure that as you speak to home security companies out there, you’re looking for a home security system solution. You make sure the fire protection is included in their monitoring plans.
That makes your monitoring go a long way and it adds value to your monitoring plan altogether. Fire monitoring is great for people with little children, people that have pets, for people with second homes or vacation homes. Obviously if there’s a fire in the house, the goal will be to get out of the way and you’re not waiting for the fire department to show up.
For instances when you can be there and control the situation, the home security system with fire monitoring is the next best thing.
What does a home security system do in the event of a home invasion?
It’s important to understand what a home invasion is compared to a burglary, compared to vandalism and other things that criminals can do with your property when you’re not there.
When you start thinking about burglary, theft, home invasions and crimes to people’s properties, we know that home security systems could play a big role in providing homeowners with the safety that they are looking for and a peace of mind.
A home invasion is different. Home invasions are considered break-ins or burglary while there are people in the house. It’s not like someone just broke in to the home. In a home invasion, there’ll be people in the property. That’s how it’s classified. You don’t want to run into a burglar while a burglar is in your house.
Burglars that come in, when there are people home could be looking to do harm to people, could be looking to do more than maybe steal your TV or your VCR or your DVD player.
How does our alarm system protect you in the event of a home invasion? Home invasions work like burglaries. We want to design the system in a way that the points of entry into the home are protected. The doors have door or window sensors on them. The windows also have window sensors on them protecting the house and keeping burglars out of the house.
Say a door is opened or a window opened in the event of a home invasion, the homeowner or the home security system user wants to be able to listen in for a chime or a siren. Yes, you have a monitored home security system that is designed to dial out to the central monitoring station if you have an emergency and then the police are called.
In the event of a home invasion when there are people in the house and a lot of burglars are armed, it is important that you get the signal or notification from a chime, from the control panel or you hear the siren going off early so that inhabitants of the home can go and hide themselves or find cover or even arm themselves, prepared to defend themselves in a situation like that.
You’re not taken by surprise by just moving around your house and seeing that there’s a burglar in there. Home invasions could be one of the scariest things that could happen to homeowners and children alike. It is important that you understand how to design your home to protect against home invasions.
Here are a few tips. The first tip would be to stick with perimeter protection. That is protect all your points of entry. Those are areas that are easily accessible from outside of your home without a ladder. All those areas that a burglar can get to easily without having to climb a ladder into your home are probably going to be the point of entry in the event of an alarm or a home invasion.
You want to make sure they have sensors on them. Not just sensors but sensors that chime or trigger an alarm early on in the process because you want to hear a siren go off that might scare the burglar away or it might actually at least notify you.
The second thing you want to focus on is just as mentioned you need as many things that would alert you – sensors, sirens, chimes – in the event of a home invasion. The sooner you receive notification that something is going on, the better for the homeowner in a situation like that because at that point it’s all about protecting yourself. It’s not really about waiting for the police to show up.
We know the police will show up but it could take some time before the police gets there. In a home invasion situation, it’s all about alerting inhabitants of the home. The body goes, the human system goes in a survival mode when they know that there’s a threat imminent and you do what it is to at least buy some time.
Those are a few tips and you should understand the difference between a home invasion that occurs when there are people in the house and a burglar or a random burglary that occurs when there is nobody in the house.
Of course with home invasions, when there are people home, for people that are concerned about that you want to protect your house using home security equipment that protects the perimeter as well as inside the house.
With just a burglary situation that may occur when you’re not home, you may just want to focus on equal perimeter or door sensors and then motion sensors or something that you can put inside your home after the burglar has made it in.
The motion sensors will typically trigger an alarm and send a response to the central monitoring station. A home security system is the best way to protect your home in the event of either a home invasion or a random burglary when there’s nobody in the house.
Home security system users should know that they could find peace in knowing that their system would at least dispatch the proper authorities if they were to have an emergency.
Home Security Tips
Home Security System Tip Number One: A lot of people think hardening their homes is all about just getting a stronger door. The truth is even the strongest door relies on an even stronger frame. It’s important that you focus on making sure that you have a solid frame and a solid door. There’s nothing wrong with getting a door with a steel core and a steel frame. In short, it’s almost impossible for intruders to just kick in the door and break into the property. The big difference is you want to use at least three-inch screws at the iron core, the components of your door towards the frame of the house and make sure that it is completely sealed in to make more difficult for an intruder to access the house by either kicking in the door or attempting to jimmy it open.
Also, it is important to secure windows as part of hardening the house, ensuring that a window is sealed in place, either with screws that lock it in so that someone couldn’t just slide the window up or push it open or break the glass and crack it open easily from outside would be an important part of securing the home. Install a wood cut to fit perfectly on the window so that someone couldn’t just raise it from the outside. Some people at their homes put metal frames across the window, so that if it’s broken, they’ll have a sensor, like an alarm system sensor that will trigger an alarm to a control panel somewhere else inside the house. It is also important to note that windows on the ground floor are potentially the main point of entry in the event of a break in.
Hardening the house, a lot of focus needs to be done on the door and also, securing the window is a huge part of making sure that the home is secure. Now, door frames, window frames should not be forgotten in the whole process of hardening the house.
Home Security System Tip Number Two: Install motion lights around the property. Motion detection lights around the property are an easy way to deter burglars from breaking into your home. Assuming a burglar is coming in at night, a motion detector light can make a huge difference, or at least the awareness of one could keep any funny or shady practices from going on around your property. It’s important to focus on areas of the home that are darker, covered or hidden, maybe under the shade or protection of trees where people could hide out. Those are great places to add motion detector lights to the home. Even a burglar casing the property, as soon as they know that a light can be on and attract a neighbor’s attention or someone’s attention in the immediate vicinity, they’ll probably think twice about breaking into the property.
A simple, efficient way to secure the home, motion detector lights could be found at the hardware store like Lowe’s or Home Depot and it’s to easy to find an installer that could install them for you. There may also be DIY or do-it-yourself motion detector lights available to make it easy to secure the property yourself without having to pay more or hire help or someone to come to your house to install it for you.
Home Security System Tip Number Three: Replace your locks and keys. If you suspect that there’s been suspicious activity in your home or your door locks have been tampered with or even if you have to leave your keys with someone that you don’t trust or you feel like they may come back to your house or may have made a copy when your keys were in their possession or your home is being compromised, the first step to getting peace of mind would be to change those locks and keys. For under $100, you can replace door locks on the ground level of your home, depending on how many. The peace of mind goes a long way towards keeping you, your family and your home safe.
Replacing door locks immediately after you suspect that they’ve been compromised or your property has been compromised, should be the way to go. If you’re protecting your home from someone that has lived at your home or a tenant or a renter that has lived in the property before and they don’t live there or they used to have access to the home and had a key to the home, after you sever your relationship with those people, either tenants or workers at your house, it’s important to consider changing your door locks and getting new keys for them.
Home Security System Tip Number Four: Teach your children how to call the emergency line. A lot of people overlook this but in case of an emergency, young children could actually really help if they know how to dial 911 to get the proper authorities out to your home. If you’re concerned about your children being home alone and there’s either a fire or a medical emergency, then knowing that number could be the difference between life or death. It’s a great step towards making sure they’re independent and knowing that if something was to happen, they could reach out and call somebody. It’s also important that you have your phone number available so that they could call you in case they are in any kind of trouble or something is going on and you’re not there.
Oftentimes, people may overlook these little things or as parents who may want to control everything and try to be there all the time, but we never know what scenario could occur in which we’ll be unavailable to actually protect our children and they may have to reach out to the local authorities. Having them know your contact number and emergency numbers like 911 is a definitely good move to make towards making sure that they’re safe and independent, in case you are not there.
Home Security System Tip Number Five: Be vigilant. We are responsible for protecting ourselves the most. Investing in a home security system is great, making sure that you have things in place to make it harder for someone to break into your house are also perfect things to do.
